Each year Southern Utah University’s artsFUSION program hosts an art and music camp on campus for children in the Cedar City community. Due to changes this summer because of COVID-19, artsFUSION transformed their usual arts camp to be an exciting experience at home.
“This year instead of bringing children to campus, we decided to create an art camp experience that parents, children, and siblings can experience together at home,” said Alisa Petersen, artsFUSION director. “We have put together 1,200 art and music supplies kits, and we are creating videos of art and music lessons for families to experience together.”
artsFUSION distributed arts and music kits around Cedar City. In addition to the kits, artsFUSION created an online video gallery with helpful tutorials on how to use the supplies in the kits, as well as guides for other creative projects that can be done with supplies found at home.
artsFUSION has several programs beyond the summer arts camp. Other family programs include Beyond the Book Club with the Cedar City Library and Family Days, Wonder Wednesdays, and Create Playdate with the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA).
The artsFUSION program was created through an endowment from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, and is part of SUU’s College of Education and Human Development. For more information about artsFUSION visit their website.
