2020 SUU Dance StudentsDon’t miss the one night only screening of SUU Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Administration’s Vanishing Point: Faculty Dance Concert. This exclusive drive-in movie style event will be held on November 7, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bud Bowman Intramural Field (BBF) on SUU’s Campus. Audience members will be required to wear masks while not in their cars, as well as, social distancing due to COVID-19 precautions.

Alexandra Bradshaw-Yerby, Assistant Professor of Dance at SUU, shares, “In the face of COVID-19, our department has been busy innovating virtual and socially distanced opportunities for continued artmaking, sharing, and learning. We, the dance faculty, are thrilled to premiere these three new screendances in a fun and safe drive-in movie format. I cannot wait for our students to watch themselves perform up on the silver screen!"

Names and phone numbers of each group will be taken to correspond with the current COVID-19 contact tracing measures being taken by the state. No paper programs will be handed out at this event. Audience members will be able to scan a QR code to have the program electronically. A link to the program will also be provided on the day of the show.

Danielle Sheather, Assistant Professor of Dance at SUU, says, "In understanding how the performing arts industry has been disrupted by COVID-19, I found it necessary to teach the students a new skill, which will likely continue to be used in the field for the foreseeable future. Dancing for the camera is a fundamentally different skill than dancing for a traditional venue, so spending time in rehearsal not simply choreographing, but also honing those skills, understanding camera angles, continuity, energy exchange through lenses, depth of field, and other camera techniques was massively important to the rehearsal process for my work. I think it's important for our audience to recognize that they won't be seeing dance for the proscenium stage that was then filmed. This year our audience will be seeing screendances, an entirely new way of looking at dance and experiencing the artform. We look forward to hearing our audiences reactions to the work as we continue to elevate the students' education."
