SUU Celebrates Tradition with Annual Homecoming Week

After a turbulent year, the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds are roaring back into the school year with a jam-packed Homecoming Week! Former, current, and prospective Thunderbirds flock back together for this week of celebration honoring our history and cheering on our future.
SUU invites alumni, present students and their families, faculty and staff, founding families, friends, and community members to join the Thunderbird family for Homecoming Week, happening September 20-26, 2021. Join us this year for our Alumni Band Concert, to celebrate our incredible Thunderbird athletic teams, meet this year’s Homecoming Royalty, and officially say farewell to President and Mrs. Wyatt, as well as homecoming staples including a parade, pancake breakfast, and the thrilling 10th Anniversary of Forever Red.
2021 Homecoming Week Schedule
Monday, September 20
Kick off the week by meeting the members of SUU’s sororities and fraternities at the annual Meet the Greeks event between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Library Plaza. Then wrap up your Monday with a Drive-In Movie in the lower practice field parking lot at 8 p.m. Admission is free, so be sure to get there and watch a movie as the sunsets.
Tuesday, September 21
Students can start the school year off right by building a vision board at the Southern Utah Museum of Art from 4 to 6 p.m. Later that evening, don’t forget to support this year’s nominations for Homecoming Court at the Homecoming Royalty Pageant from 7 to 8 p.m. in the SUU Auditorium.
Wednesday, September 22
Wednesday, be sure to check out the annual Pep Rally and Powder Puff football game at the Eccles Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. and join your fellow T-Birds in cheering on our teams before their homecoming games begin.
We will also have our Thunderbird Gaming event at noon! Join SUU students in the Living Room to play Beatsaber, Jackbox Games, Super Smash Brothers, and more.
Thursday, September 23
Support your Volleyball team on Thursday as they play Eastern Washington for their Homecoming match. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time online and the game starts at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center. Afterward, don’t miss your chance to win in the Minute to Win It SUUSA event in the Living Room at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, SUU will also be joined by video producer and SUU Outstanding Alumnus Derral Eves, one of the world’s top YouTube and online video marketing experts, who will be speaking at the A.P.E.X. Event at 11:30 a.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall of the Hunter Conference Center. Eves will speak to students and alumni about his experience after graduating from SUU and the success and passion he has found.
SUU will host the annual Alumni Banquet, which honors three outstanding alumni and offers an opportunity for past graduates to gather together and celebrate SUU. The Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall and guests can RSVP by calling (435) 586-7777 or emailing alumni@suu.edu.
Friday, September 24
TGIF! Every Friday, wear RED and join T-Bird Nation on the Library Plaza to celebrate a campus tradition. This week's event is sponsored by Thunderbird Athletics, Thunder Crew and Parent & Family Services. Stop by and enjoy lawn games, pizza, and Crumbl cookies at 1 p.m. You can also support the T-Birds in the Homecoming Soccer Match kicking off against Northern Colorado at 4 p.m.
Friday will also be your chance to join President and Mrs. Wyatt for their farewell reception at 4:30 p.m. on Hunter Conference Center Patio and wind down the evening with the Alumni Band concert in the Heritage Center Theater at 7 p.m.
One of the most anticipated events of Homecoming at SUU is Forever Red! Forever Red is a night of celebration with live music, food, scholarship drawings, and many more opportunities for students and alumni alike to come together to celebrate SUU. This year, the 10th Anniversary of Forever Red is guaranteed to be better than ever, with appearances from Journey’s former lead vocalist Steve Augeri, Metro Music Club, and Chris Petersen. The event will culminate with a fireworks display that you won’t want to miss, so be sure to mark your calendars.
Finally, Friday is True T-Bird night between 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.! Join in this tradition at Old Sorrel with your partner Friday night to become a True T-Bird. For more information about this tradition, visit the SUU Tradition Keeper page.
Saturday, September 25
Saturday kicks off with a Homecoming Pancake Breakfast, followed by the annual Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. down University Boulevard. Spend your afternoon supporting the T-Birds at the Volleyball Match against Idaho and pursuing the current SUMA exhibit, free to all visitors.
The Football Tailgate begins at 4 p.m. Saturday night, followed by the Football Homecoming Game against Eastern Washington. Be sure to purchase tickets ahead of time online and get there right at kick-off at 6 p.m.
Sunday, September 26
Finally, wrap up Homecoming by supporting the SUU soccer team at their match against Montana, kick-off is at noon and this event is free to all.
