Southern Utah University's A.P.E.X. Events is joined next week by scientist, animal behaviorist, and autism activist, Dr. Temple Grandin. Join A.P.E.X. Events on February 10th, 2022 at 11:30 AM in the Great Hall on the Hunter Alumni Center.
“This event is probably the one that has garnered the most anticipation this year so far," said Dr. Lynn Vartan, director of A.P.E.X. Events. "It is a great honor to host Dr. Grandin on our SUU campus, and I cannot wait to see what discussions we can have and to learn from her!”
A prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior, Dr. Grandin's own experience with autism has fueled her professional work in creating systems to counter stress in human and animal populations. As the number of children diagnosed with autism continues to rise nationally, Grandin is sharing her message about the disorder and “differently-abled brains.”
Dr. Grandin shares her insights that the skills people with autism bring to the table should be nurtured. She teaches that focusing on the deficits of autism severely detracts from developing the talents that autistic individuals have to share with the world. Grandin continues to share her knowledge that “different is not less.”
Known for her humane treatment of livestock, Dr. Grandin's career has centered on consulting on livestock handling equipment design and animal welfare. Today half the cattle in the United States are handled in facilities she has designed.
