Southern Utah University’s Justin Jaramillo has been awarded the National Association of Music Merchants President’s Innovation Award for his work as a student in the field of Music. SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts and Department of Music are proud of Justin and the hard work that he has put into his education.
Dr. McKay Tebbs, Director of Undergraduate Music Technology at SUU, shares, “NAMM is an organization that fosters connections between music product companies and music store owners from around the world. People come to the NAMM show to see and purchase the newest and latest items from instrument and equipment manufacturers. Showcasing companies always bring in their sponsored artists to perform at these events. I will be organizing a school trip for SUU music students to attend the NAMM show this summer. We will be driving from Cedar City to Anaheim in the hopes of seeing and hearing new things that will inspire growth and creativity.”
The overview of the award explains that the NAMM President’s Innovation Award honors college students who demonstrate excellence in the field of music. Winners have proven dedication to pursuing a career in music to include the areas of music performance, music education, media, sound engineering/audio, event technology, production, administration, management and/or marketing along with product creation and innovation.
Justin Jaramillo, a senior majoring in Saxophone Performance from West Valley City, Utah, says, “I decided to study music largely due to the enjoyment I get from it, whether it is from listening or playing. I am especially grateful for the people I have met through this passion for music. As for this award, it is certainly an honor to have received it. The NAMM show is a big deal within the music industry. I am grateful to have the opportunity to attend, and hope to make the most of it in furthering my track in having a career in music.
Dr. Tebbs goes on to say, “Going to the NAMM show can be a life changing experience for a young musician. You get to see and hear so many amazing things from the latest in music gear and technology to some of the best performers in the world.
