SUU Emeritus Professor Publishes 6th Edition of International Textbook

Southern Utah University Professor Emeritus of Arts Administration William J. Byrnes published the 6th edition of his internationally used textbook Management and the Arts on June 2, 2022. Professor Byrnes spent the last three years updating and revising his textbook to meet the evolving demands of the arts manager and cultural organizer world.
"My last edition was published in 2014 and I was on target to finish the new one in 2020,” said Professor Byrnes. “However, the field of arts management took on a whole set of new challenges as the pandemic unfolded. I set about further revising and updating the book and incorporated many new strategies and practices used by arts organizations to cope with the changing world around them."
The exciting 6th edition of the comprehensive textbook includes an essential information on the successful development and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion programs by those in the arts management and organization world. He also added in-depth coverage of organizational culture and its impacts on programming, operations, and inclusion. The textbook further includes expanded information on fundraising, marketing, and leadership, as well as practices and ethics, offering students a modern take on arts administration.
Management and the Arts provides a companion website featuring helpful videos, projects, links to learning resources, and more, and it includes suggested additional readings and resources for faculty to aid students.
From 2004 to 2009, Professor Byrnes served as dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and was associate provost at SUU from 2009 to 2014. He also taught in the MFA program for twelve years and in the online Master of Arts Administration program.
Professor Byrnes' textbook Management of the Arts is read all over the world, from Hong Kong to New York and Australia.
