Dr. Shalini Kesar Receives 2023 UWHEN Mentorship Award

Southern Utah University’s Dr. Shalini Kesar, professor of information systems, was recently awarded the 2023 Utah Women in Higher Education Network (UWHEN) Mentorship Award for her work on behalf of women in Utah. Dr. Kesar was presented with the award at the 2023 UWHEN Annual Leadership Conference.
Dr. Shalini Kesar has been in front of the classroom for over 25 years. Her degree focuses on cybersecurity and her passion is to reduce the gap between women and technology fields. Dr. Kesar holds two master’s degrees from De Montfort University and the London School of Economics and a doctoral degree from Salford University. She has taught at various universities across the world.
Currently, Dr. Kesar is a tenured professor of cybersecurity and the director of the Master of Science in Cyber Security and Information Assurance program in SUU’s College of Engineering and Computational Sciences. Her area of expertise includes risk management, governance, risks and compliance in cybersecurity, computer ethics, and women in technology.
Dr. Kesar has also been involved with the National Center for Women in Information Technology, spearheading a chapter of Southern Aspirations in Computing since 2012. As the only initiative to highlight young women in computing and information technology on a national level, great strides have been taken in the program’s development in southern Utah.
The award was presented during the 2023 UWHEN Annual Leadership Conference on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Dr. Kesar attended the conference with a few of her graduate students to give them an opportunity to build their network.
The Utah Women in Higher Education Network is the Utah affiliate to the American Council on Education Women’s Network. UWHEN works toward advancing women’s leadership on higher education campuses by identifying women leaders, developing and encouraging leadership abilities, advancing women’s careers, providing networking opportunities, and specifically supporting women in mid- and executive-level positions.
