Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremony to Be Held June 9

The 38th annual Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games will begin with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Coliseum at Southern Utah University. Headlined by LOCASH, the Opening Ceremony will include the athlete’s parade, lighting of the torch, family-friendly activities, and fireworks.
“The Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremonies provide us a chance to gather and celebrate the excellence of our community, our university, and our state,” said Jonathan Oglesby, Utah Summer Games executive director. “We are excited to celebrate Utahns of all levels of athletic achievement, from noted Olympians to hopeful youth, and look forward to inspiring hopes of new connections with new partners and participants.”
The headlining act, named “country music’s iconic feel-good duo” by PEOPLE, will be LOCASH. With eight charting singles, two successful albums, and over 815 million global streams since 2015, artists Preston Brust and Chris Lucas are respected performers with a history of acknowledgments from country music’s biggest awards shows including a Vocal Duo of the Year nomination at The 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards.
The ceremony will be preceded by a Block Party from 4-7 p.m. with food, live music, ping pong and arm-wrestling tables, a rock climbing wall, and many more activities that the whole family will enjoy.
The Opening Ceremony is open to all and will run from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and vendor registration is available at utahsummergames.org.
Utah Summer Games is one of the premier sporting competitions in the state. With more than 40 sporting events, it draws a numerous variety of teams and athletes to Cedar City. The Olympic style sports-festival has been conducted at SUU since 1986, with a record high of 10,182 participants, 50 thousand spectators, and 1,000 volunteers in attendance.
