Once again, Southern Utah University has been recognized as one of the acclaimed Colleges of Distinction. Particular recognition was given to SUU for its affordability and military support in addition to the outstanding business, education, engineering and nursing programs. A special accolade was also received for SUU’s outstanding career development initiatives for undergraduate students.

Colleges of Distinction promotes schools with engaging undergraduate experiences focused on student success. The selection process comprises a sequence of in-depth research and detailed interviews with the schools, accepting only those that adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

SUU’s exemplary adherence to the Successful Outcomes distinction is due, in no small part, to the Career and Professional Development Center.

“We are very impressed with how SUU helps students transition into post-graduation life with confidence,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction. “The resources and unwavering support it gives students all throughout their academic journey sets them up for successful, fulfilling careers in whatever field they choose.”

In a precarious global economy, students are pursuing a college degree with the expectation that it will help launch a career they are passionate about. While earning a bachelor’s degree is a great start, there are many other things colleges can provide their students with a significant advantage in the job market. SUU’s Career Development award from Colleges of Distinction services goes above and beyond the norm, supporting students with a comprehensive approach to achieving their goals.

"Our innovative programs go beyond traditional services to address the needs of students by offering career assessments, the Professional Internship Program, SUU Career Academy, and our T-Bird Ready Program,” said Brandon Street, director of the SUU Career Center. “These initiatives help students make informed decisions about their future career goals and equip them with the skills employers seek in college graduates, which ultimately sets us apart from other institutions."

Schritter believes the Career Center’s innovative approach sets it apart from similar programs. "The Career Development recognition goes beyond standard offerings like mock interviews and job boards," said Schritter. "SUU integrates career readiness into the curriculum, establishing meaningful connections between students across majors and their future careers.”

The dedication and attention to students' needs are not singular to the Career Center. “At SUU, we stand out from other institutions by providing a holistic support system that sets our students on the path to professional excellence," said Street.

Students and alumni looking to utilize the exemplary services offered by the Career and Professional Development Center can schedule an appointment on the Career Center website, or drop by their office located in suite 204 of the Sharwan Smith Center.
