Frehner Museum to Host Solar Eclipse Viewing Event on April 8th, 2024

The Southern Utah University Garth and Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, SUU STEM Center for Teaching & Learning, and SUU Ashcroft Observatory are thrilled to invite students, community and visitors to a solar eclipse viewing event. This event will take place on Monday, April 8th, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garth & Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, Science Addition Building (SCA), 162 South 300 West, Cedar City, Utah. The eclipse starts at 11:17 am, with the mid-eclipse at 12:25 pm, and ends at 1:38 p.m.
As the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness this awe-inspiring celestial event through solar viewing telescopes provided by the SUU Ashcroft Observatory and the Cedar Breaks National Monument. These telescopes are specially equipped for safe sun observation, ensuring participants enjoy the Eclipse's breathtaking beauty without harming their eyes.
To enhance the experience, the event will feature various activities designed to educate and entertain guests of all ages. Attendees can look forward to engaging exhibits, hands-on activities and interactive presentations that delve into the science behind solar eclipses and other astronomical phenomena. To ensure that everyone can view the Eclipse safely, free solar eclipse glasses will be provided to all participants.
