Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games Partners with Parents EmpoweredCEDAR CITY, Utah - The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games, an outreach department of Southern Utah University, is partnering with the Southwest Behavioral Health Center to promote the Parents Empowered initiative through the 2025 event season.

Parents Empowered is a statewide education campaign that aims to support every Utah child reaching the age of 21 alcohol-free, so they can benefit from a healthy brain. As part of the partnership, the campaign will be showcased throughout the Summer Games through branding and media opportunities.

“We are excited to partner with the Southwest Behavioral Health Center to provide exposure for Parents Empowered,” said Jon Oglesby, Executive Director of the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games. “The negative effects of underage drinking are well publicized, and we are proud to share positive ways to support parents in having positive, transformative conversations regarding this issue.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends talking to kids about underage drinking as early as age 9. Research shows kids are making up their minds about alcohol between the ages of 9 to 13, and those perceptions can become more favorable as they mature. Parents Empowered promotes knowing and teaching the harms of underage drinking, having fun together as a family, and spending time with your kids.
“The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games presents the ideal venue for Parents Empowered to discuss the perils of underage drinking,” said Melissa Veater, Prevention Specialist for the Southwest Behavioral Health Center. “We are excited to support youth throughout Utah and neighboring states in this positive, uplifting Utah tradition.”
