Southern Utah University’s Department of Music is thrilled to announce the return of the Alumni Choir Concert during Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall of the SUU Music Building. This marks the first Alumni Choir Concert in several years, as the university looks to reestablish a tradition of alternating between alumni band and choir concerts at each homecoming.

This year’s concert will be an extraordinary event, as SUU alumni will share the stage with Da Pacem, a group mainly made up of Brigham Young University (BYU) Singers alumni, directed by Dr. Ron Staheli, former director of choral activities at BYU. The collaboration between SUU and BYU alumni promises to create a stunning and memorable evening of music.

Dr. Andrew Briggs, who is organizing the concert, shares his excitement for the return of the Alumni Choir Concert. “This event provides a wonderful opportunity for alumni to reconnect, not only with great music but also with old friends and the SUU community. We are excited to build this tradition again and look forward to the incredible music we’ll create together.”

Ron Cardon, Director of Alumni Relations, also extends a warm welcome to all returning alumni and their families. “Homecoming is such a special time for all of us at SUU,” Cardon said. “We invite alumni to come to campus, not just for the Alumni Choir Concert, but also to take part in all of the exciting Homecoming events we have planned throughout the weekend. It’s a great time to reconnect with old friends, celebrate our shared history, and enjoy everything that makes SUU special.”

Dr. Briggs encourages all choir alumni to participate and help make the event special. “We hope to see alumni from all walks of life, regardless of how much time has passed since their last performance. It’s not about perfection; it’s about coming together to share in the joy of singing.”

Whether you are an SUU alum, a supporter of the arts, or simply someone who enjoys beautiful music, this concert is not to be missed. It is expected to be a highlight of the Homecoming celebrations and a heartwarming opportunity to see old friends, make new memories, and perform some incredible choral works.
