This free, two-day event is open to students, community members, educators, therapists, and anyone interested in exploring solutions to the challenges families face today. The conference will focus on the theme “Family Wellness Through Early Childhood and the Lifespan,” aiming to strengthen relationships, offer professional development, and prepare students for addressing real-world family issues.
Attendees will enjoy light breakfast snacks and lunch on both days with pre-registration, which must be completed by Oct. 1 to guarantee lunch. The event will also offer 14 continuing education units (CEU) credits for $125 ($100 for National Association of Social Workers members), approved by the Utah NASW for mental health providers and child care providers.
The highlight of the conference is keynote speaker Dr. Kristen Neff, associate professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and co-founder of the nonprofit Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. Dr. Neff, known for her TEDx talk with over 1.7 million views, will share insights on self-compassion and mindfulness, equipping attendees with valuable tools to enhance family wellness.
The Family Life and Human Development program at SUU focuses on strengthening families by integrating curriculum based on the healthy development of individuals and families throughout the lifespan. The program prepares early childhood and family service professionals to integrate family theory and research into evidence based practices through experiential education applicable to families and human relationships.
