Cedar City, UTAH -

Zach Anderson speaks to SUU music students during a workshop in the music buildingSouthern Utah University music major Zach Anderson has recently been offered a position at Rue Boyer Studios, a high-profile music studio in Paris, France. This job offer has come following internships with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and Rue Boyer Studios in association with Mix With The Masters.

Anderson, who has been a student at SUU since 2020, received his initial internship at the annual NAMM show, a major music industry conference, in January 2024 after being recommended for it by SUU’s Dr. McKay Tebbs. He was one of only four students who were selected for the internship nationwide. At the conference, he had the opportunity to meet Grammy-nominated mixing engineer, Maxime Le Guil and talk with him about his studio, Rue Boyer, located in Paris, France, as well as opportunities for internships.

“He told me he's had a lot of interns that haven’t really been able to make it work,” said Anderson. “A lot of people really want to be in the studio scene, but aren't willing to put in the work. So he basically said, 'If you want to put in the work, you have the job.'”

Anderson was officially offered an internship shortly after the NAMM show and flew out to Paris less than a month later. His first few months were mostly long days of hard work, but by the end of the internship, he was able to start using the utilities of the studio and being involved in recording sessions.

“I was having some really, really great experiences and really working as hard as possible to show them who I am as a person, my work ethic,” said Anderson. “And luckily, after enough of that effort, they realized how much of an asset I would be at the studio. They recently offered me a one-year contract to be working at the studio there as an engineer.”

Zach credits much of his recent success to his experiences in SUU’s commercial music program, particularly with Dr. McKay Tebbs.

“Dr. Tebbs really introduced me to the entire world as it is,” said Anderson. “And through the commercial music program, I was able to meet a lot of people and network, and get where I am today; I owe a lot to that program and all of the professors. Just being at this university has really taught me a lot about myself and what I want to pursue. And it's given me a really good work ethic to go out there and pursue it.”

Dr. Tebbs and others in the music department hope that Anderson’s success will inspire other students to pursue their interests in the music industry.

“Since the internship was just recently finished, we're still waiting to see what kind of effect Zach will have on the Music Department and rest of campus,” said Dr. Tebbs. “But other students in the commercial music program have been inspired by Zach's experience and have been reaching out to me for help in coordinating their own internship.”

Zach will begin working at Rue Boyer Studios full time in early October. He intends to finish his degree from SUU remotely while living in Paris and ultimately continue to pursue his aspirations in the music industry.

The Department of Music at SUU offers students a comprehensive music education while preparing them for career paths throughout the recording, performance, and music education industries.  Learn more about SUU’s music programs.
