The Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Natural Sciences at Southern Utah University invites students, faculty, and the community to attend its annual Research Symposium on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, starting at 5:30 PM in the Hunter Alumni Center’s Great Hall. This signature event celebrates scientific discovery and innovation, highlighting cutting-edge research from SUU’s students and faculty.
The evening will begin with a keynote address by Dan Hermansen, a 2012 graduate of SUU’s College of Natural Sciences. Hermansen’s inspiring career journey has taken him from healthcare roles at Primary Children's Hospital and the University of Utah Medical Center to becoming a leader in medical visualization. After discovering his passion for medical illustration, Hermansen earned a Master’s in Biomedical Visualization from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2017. Currently, Hermansen is the Director of Clinical Design at Osso VR, where he leads the world’s largest team of medical illustrators, pioneering virtual reality surgical training. His keynote will provide insights into his career path and the role of VR in shaping the future of medical education.
Following the keynote, attendees can explore oral and poster presentations showcasing research across a range of scientific disciplines. The Research Symposium is an opportunity to engage with groundbreaking work and learn about the innovations emerging from SUU’s College of Natural Sciences.
The Research Symposium will be part of SUU’s Natural Sciences Week, a series of engaging events from November 4 to November 7, 2024, aimed at fostering connections between students, faculty, and the community. These events will include a student meet and greet with department chairs on Monday, November 4 and a student meet and greet with Dean Bill Heyborne and Associate Dean Nate Werner of the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Natural Sciences on Thursday, November 7.
