Southern Utah University’s Building Apprenticeship Systems in Cybersecurity (BASIC) program has earned the prestigious “Outstanding Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor” award from the State of Utah. Presented during National Apprenticeship Week at the Apprenticeship Utah Summit & Job Fair, this recognition highlights the program's exceptional efforts in developing cybersecurity apprenticeships that bridge the gap between workforce skills and industry demands.
Funded by the Department of Labor’s Closing the Skills Gap grant, the BASIC program connects students and professionals with the training, certifications, and job opportunities needed to excel in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity. By addressing critical workforce shortages, the program strengthens both individual career prospects and the cybersecurity industry as a whole.
The BASIC program consists of several student workers, as well as SUU faculty and staff. Raegan Worley and Tesla Schafer are the student workers for BASIC. The faculty and staff team is composed of Jeffrey Miller, who’s also the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computational Science; Whip Whipple as Director, Dave Henrie, Dallas Guymon, and Josey White as Project Navigators; and Tyler Wandry as Associate Project Director.
