SUU to Host ‘Cafe Sabor Thunderbird Drill Invitational’

CEDAR CITY, Utah
Southern Utah University will host a high school drill competition on December 13-14, 2024 through the Larry H. Miller Summer Games. The ‘Cafe Sabor Thunderbird Drill Invitational’ will host 28 UHSAA drill teams from around the state of Utah, representing the 2A, 3A, 4A, and 6A classifications. Local schools including Canyon View, Cedar, and Parowan are all participating in the event, along with other participants from Regions 9 and 17.
“We are thrilled to welcome 28 teams and communities from around the state of Utah to SUU for the inaugural ‘Cafe Sabor Thunderbird Drill Invitational’, said Jon Oglesby, Executive Director of the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games. “It is our honor to welcome talented student-athletes to showcase their abilities, while they and their supporters experience our renowned hospitality in Cedar City during the event.
Soloists will compete on Friday, while teams will compete on Saturday. All competition will take place on the SUU campus at the America First Event Center. A full list of participants, as well as schedules and other information, can be found on the Utah Summer Games website. The 4A/6A teams will compete in a morning session, while the 2A/3A teams will compete in the afternoon. SUU will provide a variety of concession and hospitality options throughout the competition for spectators.
Fans are noted to be aware of various construction projects taking place on the SUU campus that could affect parking. Additionally, fans are reminded to follow the clear bag policy instituted for SUU athletic events. Tickets for the competition can be purchased online.
