Southern Utah University (SUU) alumnus Dallen Moody, a 2021 finance graduate, has excelled in the financial industry as a Private Bank Associate at Bank of America Private Bank. His role entails providing specialized financial services to the firm’s most affluent clients, and Moody quickly established himself as a rising star, serving the top 0.01% of high-net-worth individuals. Moody attributes his success to the exceptional mentorship he received from SUU.
"The small class sizes and personal attention I received at SUU were invaluable," Moody said. "I was able to build strong relationships with my professors, who knew me by name and were always willing to provide guidance and support."
Among the professors that had an impact on him, Moody specifically credits finance professors Steve Engst and Nathan McNamee for their mentorship to get a job in Private Banking
The engaging nature of finance, particularly investment management, resonated with Moody. He found himself drawn to the dynamic world of markets, the constant evolution of technology and business, and the intellectual stimulation of reading and staying informed. Furthermore, he appreciated the meritocratic nature of investments, where intelligence, strategic aggression, calculated risk-taking, and even a touch of luck could lead to significant rewards. These core concepts he learned in Professor Engst's finance class captivated Moody and solidified his decision to pursue a career in the field.
While at SUU, Moody actively engaged in research, case competitions, and investment scholar groups, gaining practical experience and developing a deep understanding of financial markets.
"SUU allowed me to explore my interests and provided opportunities that wouldn't have been possible at larger institutions," Moody said. "The hands-on learning and real-world simulations prepared me to tackle complex projects and contribute meaningfully to my team."
Thus far in his career, Moody's most significant accomplishments include onboarding a complex client that was a substantial gain for the organization by meeting an impossible deadline, as well as successfully launching several multi-million-dollar products.
"SUU put me on a path and gave me momentum to dive into projects," said Moody. "I credit SUU with the momentum and willingness I have to take charge of the hairiest, complex projects."
Moody's story exemplifies SUU's commitment to fostering student success and preparing graduates for impactful careers. His dedication and achievements serve as an inspiration to current and future SUU students. From his experience at SUU, Moody now hopes to share his expertise and passion for finance by becoming a university professor after achieving career goals in the industry.
