Last week found T-Birds nose-deep in textbooks studying for dreaded midterms. Finally, those tests are in the past, and as the dust settles, a huge realization sets in. Spring Break is practically here!

With the long-awaited break just days away and temperatures rising, it’s time to start planning to make the most of your vacation. It’s your chance to kick your feet up, let your hair down, and have a good time.

Here are some ideas for a fun, memorable – and relaxing – Spring Break.

Exploring Cedar City for Under $50

So your travel plans can’t extend beyond city limits. That doesn’t mean you’ll have to spend the whole break sitting on your couch. Little Cedar City has far more to offer than meets the eye. We are surrounded by beautiful nearby landscapes. Take a short drive up to Cedar Breaks and explore the National Monument, just 45-minutes away. While it is definitely still winter at the top of the mountain, the park takes on a whole new life in the snow. Snowshoe to the Winter Ranger station on the weekend for free hot chocolate and stunning views of red rock hoodoos caked with frosting-like snow.

Super over the snow? No worries! Just 26 minutes to the northwest of Cedar City lies the Parowan Gap and Dinosaur tracks. Parowan Gap is a collection of Native American Petroglyphs spanning over 1,000 years. At this National Historic Site, visitors can travel back in time and see the iconic artwork of men and women who first lived on this land. Two miles away lies the dinosaur tracks which have been preserved in the rock for millions of years. Make sure to check them both out!

At night, check out the new arcade in town, Funky Munky on Main Street. Enjoy games and pizza with friends, then head to the movies to catch a new release.

Want to relax and lose all that stress from exams? Try heading over to Healing Mountain Massage. They offer facials, wraps, Swedish massage, and energy treatments all at an affordable price. Cedar City also proudly boasts three different yoga studios, one of which is within walking distance from campus. Go on a hike, get a massage, do some yoga, and get your zen back this Spring Break.

Southern Utah Day Trips - budget $50-$100Southern Utah Day Trips ($50-$100)

Okay, you’d like to go a little bit farther than Cedar City. There is plenty to do around Cedar that will still have you home in your own bed at night.

If you aren’t sick of the snow yet, take a trip up to Brian Head Resort. Just 45-minutes away, spend the day on the mountain on your skis or snowboard. Spring skiing season is here, and there’s nothing like shredding down the mountain slashing up snow in a light sweater. Don’t have your own equipment? SUU Outdoors doesn’t charge for days they are closed, which is all of Spring Break. Rent a board for only $16 and spend your week working on those methods.

Zion National Park is great way to escape the cold if you are already mentally moving toward summer. Challenge yourself and hike Angel’s Landing or take a stroll up the Emerald Pools trail. In March, the park has yet to reach their visitation peak, so you’ll bypass those chaotic summer crowds.

Road Trip ($100-$300)

Spring Break is finally here and you are determined to make the most of it. If you picture warm weather, swimsuits, and water when you think Spring Break, why not grab some friends and road trip to Lake Powell? Towering red rock walls, mazes of slot canyons, and stunning blue water makes this place world-famous. Grab some camping equipment, paddleboards, and kayaks from SUU Outdoors for an incredible week.

Road trips aren’t all about the destination however. Driving the quickest route to Lake Powell takes your right past the East Entrance to Zion National Park, where the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel is located. After taking a peek at Zion, keep heading down the road and stop in at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. This little gem rarely has many visitors, and is a wonder to view all the pink sand dunes. Climb and slide all you want until you’re ready to get on your way.

Once you reach Lake Powell, make sure to take a break from sunbathing and paddle boarding to enjoy one of the most picturesque spots in the west, Horseshoe Bend, a famous section of the Colorado River.

This drive is filled with scenic views and enthralling little towns, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into an old western as you explore this region of color country.

All of these natural wonders and places to explore prove you don’t need to hop on a plane or spend tons of money to have an unforgettable Spring Break when you attend the University of the Parks.

Have an exciting and safe Spring Break T-birds! Don’t forget to tag your pictures with #tbirdnation and #outsidetbird so we can follow you on your adventure. Snowshoes, snowboards, paddleboards, kayaks, and plenty of other lawn games and gear can be rented at SUU Outdoors.
