Originally from Salt Lake City, Dr. Tyler Stillman has always been fascinated by people. He enjoys watching and understanding how/why people are driven to make sense of their environment.
As the Assistant Professor of Management and Marketing and Director of the Entrepreneurship Center, Stillman teaches the following classes:
- BA 6100 - Advanced Issues in Business
- MGMT 6100 - Managing Organizations and People
- MGMT 4900 - Entrepreneurship Speaker Series
- MKTG 3010 - Marketing Principles
- MKTG 3030 / PSY 4500 - Buyer Behavior
- MKTG 4900 - Advanced Topics in Marketing
Through his experience and education, Stillman has conducted several research projects and always enjoys the process of scientific discovery. According to Google Scholar, his research has a broad reach, being cited over 3,000 times in total.
Now, Stillman uses his research findings to teach his students.
“It’s fun to design studies,” said Stillman. “It’s even better when people behave as expected, or when they behave in an unexpected and interesting way.”
Stillman earned his bachelor degree in psychology from the University of Utah. From there he attended Florida State University where he received his master’s and doctorate in social psychology.
The path from Florida State to SUU was not originally permanent. He came to SUU for a temporary, visiting scholar position. The expectation was to move to a research-focused institution after a year, but he and his wife fell in love with Cedar City. When a more permanent position became available, he did not hesitate to accept.
Stillman is constantly stunned by the resilience and toughness of his SUU students.
“I had a student with a serious learning disabilities, and I did not know if she was capable of passing the class,” said Stillman. “She demonstrated exceptional resolve and grit, gaining support from her peers, and passed the class in the end.”
Stillman has been honored as Distinguished Educator and a Beta Gamma Sigma Inductee over the last few years. He is dedicated to teaching and takes an interest in helping students.
