How to be a productive online studentLet’s face it. It’s really easy to get distracted. You tell yourself you’re going to study, but suddenly you’re on Instagram or even Netflix. Sometimes it’s hard to feel motivated and keep pushing through your schoolwork and other responsibilities. Here are some strategies to stay productive in online classes.

Minimize Phone Distractions

Turn off all unnecessary phone notifications. Every phone ding or buzz can break your focus and make it easier to get off task. If that doesn’t work, you can try turning your phone off or leaving it in another room. Work without distractions for a set amount of time and then take a five minute break where you can go on your phone.

Take Notes in Class

Sometimes with online classes, you can feel like there’s no need to take notes because everything you need is on the computer. It’s also easy to get comfortable and zone out over online lectures. However, taking notes can help you stay focused and keep your thoughts organized. You will remember the content and be able to make connections easier if you write them down by hand.

Start with the Difficult Things

Make a schedule for the day. Create a list, either virtually or on paper, of what you need to accomplish. Include each assignment and test you need to study for. Put the hardest things at the top of the list and complete them while you’re the most focused and motivated. It’ll help your productivity knowing that it will only get easier.

Try Productivity Apps

Even though phones can be distracting, they can also be helpful. Mobile apps can be a great way to boost your productivity. Use Freedom, Be Focused, and Forest to help you stay focused. Try Trello and Evernote to stay organized, and Todoist to manage your to-do lists. If you have an Apple device, you can also use the Shortcuts app to help you save time. It allows you to create automations and better workflows.

Have Fun and Reward Yourself

To keep motivated, it’s important to reward yourself after working hard. Constantly being productive is almost impossible, so don’t worry if you need to take breaks or just want to do something else. Make time for social activities, fun, and relaxation. After studying all week, go hang out with friends or get outside. Rewarding yourself can help you keep going and stay productive, even when you don’t feel like it at the moment.

Being consistent and efficient can help you get your coursework done quicker and easier. Make the decision to change your habits and train yourself to stay productive. Staying productive and avoiding distractions will help you accomplish your goals.
