Beverly Hawkins Burgess was born in Hurricane Utah. She was raised on a dairy farm with her seven siblings. At a young age she learned to wash milk bottles and to sew, she still has a great love for sewing but has readily given up on washing milk bottles. One year after graduating from Hurricane High School Beverly married Joe Burgess, they lived in St. George where Beverly owned and operated a fabric store called the Sewing Bee while Joe obtained his plumbing license. Before long they were given the opportunity to move to Cedar City to purchase Zion Plumbing and Heating. As a young couple, they had very limited finances for purchasing a business so they spent their first year in Cedar City living on the floor of the plumbing office. Eventually, they found their way into a real home where they filled the rooms with 4 busy children. Each of those children attended and graduated from Cedar High School and Southern Utah University. Over the years Beverly has been very active in her church and her community. She has donated a great deal of time, money, and knowledge to SUU, The Utah Shakespeare Festival, The Iron County Care and Share, The Happy Factory, and many other valuable community organizations. She has an infectious love for reading, education, and her family. She loves to see all the things the world has to offer but most of all she loves her 18 grandchildren.
