Requirements for Emotional Support Animals in Campus Housing

Begin the process of applying for an Emotional Support Animal Accommodation.

In order to be considered for an Emotional Support Animal in campus housing, the following must be obtained by the owner:

  1. A letter from a professional outlining the need for the Emotional Support Animal that is like a prescription detailing why the person is in need of an Emotional Support Animal and how the animal supports them. The letter must include:
    1. Written on letterhead
    2. Professional’s contact information
    3. Signature of the professional
    4. Title of the professional
  2. Documentation showing the animal is registered with the city, if it is a canine.
  3. Documentation from a licensed veterinarian showing the animal is free of disease, up-to-date on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered.
  4. Completed Animal Care Plan found linked on this page.

Once those three items have been obtained, they can be brought into the Disability Resource Center or emailed to your case manager who will then review them and visit with the owner. Then if the Emotional Support Animal is approved, the DRC will ask the owner to sign a housing contract acknowledging that the owner is aware of their responsibilities. At that point, campus housing will be contacted by the DRC allowing the Emotional Support Animal into housing.
