Mentee Information:

Students meet weekly one-on-one with an experienced SUU student peer mentor to receive
personalized instruction. Each student will receive instruction relevant to them including:

  • Goal setting
  • Self advocacy
  • Time management skills
  • Study strategies
  • Campus resources
  • Life balance skills
  • Workplace readiness training
  • Professional development
  • Self care practices

Mentor Information:

The mentors will receive the following benefits which will help them to become better mentors to the students.

  • Job-Exploration Counseling: Career decisions/major Student has decided on a career that fits their needs and/or interests. Has a career plan-course to take, qualifications, skills needed to develop, training required Career assessment with the career center & understand the results DWS website and how to use the site
  • Work-Based Learning: Onsite exposure to job environment and skills needed internships, job shadowing, contact interviews, worksite visits
  • Post-Secondary Educational Programs: SUU Programs and classes Campus resources and how to use Academic plan-Degreeworks-also meeting with their academic advisor to determine classes Financial wellness-scholarships, financial aid
  • Workplace Readiness Training: Academic skill development that transfers to job or career Study strategies Time management, leadership skills, teamwork, decision-making-soft skills Resume, cover letter, mock interview, and professional development skills
  • Self-Advocacy: student advocating for their needs, academically and professionally OR Independent life skills; budgeting, communication with professors or supervisors, stress management, accommodations and how to request them
