Study Abroad

The department offers short-term learning abroad programs led by interdisciplinary studies faculty. Coursework can be used to fulfill BIS, MIS, and/or general studies requirements.

Global Leadership in Spain - Summer 2025

Program Cost: $2,900

Embark on an academically rigorous journey through Spain, critically examining historical and contemporary global leadership through an interdisciplinary lens. Employing a 'city as text' approach in Barcelona, Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, and Cordoba, students will analyze influential figures, pivotal events, and evolving leadership trends. This immersive program integrates site-specific learning at iconic locations, fostering a deep understanding of how Spanish history and culture have shaped leadership practices. Through case studies, comparative analysis, and reflective practices, participants will explore the complex interplay between local contexts and global leadership challenges, enhancing their own leadership potential in our interconnected world.

Honor Society

Students in Bristlecone Hall at SUUAlpha Iota Sigma is dedicated to recognizing and advancing academic scholarship in interdisciplinary studies. Our mission is to promote the value of interdisciplinary work, encourage collaboration among students and faculty, and enhance the application of interdisciplinary knowledge. As an honor society, Alpha Iota Sigma: 

  • Promotes the benefits of interdisciplinary work
  • Provides a forum to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among students, faculty, and community members;
  • Investigates and encourages methods of interdisciplinary learning
  • Enhances understanding and application of interdisciplinary knowledge among the general public
  • Creates a sense of community among interdisciplinary students and graduates of interdisciplinary programs.

Student members of Alpha Iota Sigma advance this mission by: 

  • Motivating their peers to excel in interdisciplinary scholarship
  • Fostering connections between their academic coursework and the larger community through civic engagement projects
  • Encouraging honors graduates to be leaders in addressing the complex problems of contemporary society with the highest intellectual, ethical, and moral standards. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • All Interdisciplinary Studies (undergraduate) and Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (graduate) students are encouraged to apply. Undergraduates must complete INDS 2000 and 3000 and earn an overall 3.4 GPA to join. Graduate students must complete INDS 6000 and earn an overall 3.7 GPA. The chapter application fee ($30) includes a certificate, commemorative pin, and cords to wear at graduation.
