Chalk the town with color at the Gone with the Rain: Chalk the Walk Festival on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Cedar City Main Street Park. Cedar City residents, students, and artists are invited to express their creativity while helping raise funds for SUU’s College of Performing and Visual Arts students. Artists of all levels—from stick figure to Monet—are welcome.
Register for your concrete canvas on Eventbrite at ChalkForArt.com. Early registration will be $25 for each artist block and can consist of a team of up to four chalk artists. The price will raise to $30 on the day of the event. For each additional person who wants to add their touch to the masterpiece the cost is $5. Lunch and a 24-count pack of chalk are included in the registration fee. The public is invited to view the artists at work free of charge.
Chalk artists may check in and start laying out their vision beginning at 7 a.m. Art enthusiasts and curious bystanders may watch the art take shape from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and enjoy food from local food trucks. Prizes, including a $500 prize for the best overall entry, will be awarded at 3 p.m.
This exciting event is organized by the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts Advisory Board. The advisory board is committed to helping raise funds to provide valuable experiential learning opportunities for SUU art students.
“The Gone with the Rain: Chalk the Walk Festival is a great way for people to engage in artwork,” said Shauna Mendini, Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts. “We hope the community will come out and work side-by-side with SUU students and create something beautiful together. It is a wonderful opportunity to support the college, the students, and the arts while having a great time.”
