SUBJECT: Holidays
IV. POLICY
- Each year, the President determines the approved holidays of the University in accordance with Utah State Board of Higher Education Policy R821. The following named days are usually considered as holidays for salaried employees under regular University appointment:
- New Year's Day (January 1)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Third Monday in January)
- Presidents' Day (Third Monday in February)
- Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
- Juneteenth National Freedom Day (explanation of observed day in IV.B.1.)
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Pioneer Day (July 24)
- Labor Day (First Monday in September)
- Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November)
- Day following Thanksgiving
- Christmas day (December 25)
- Two (2) additional days (as declared by the President in consultation with the President's Leadership Council)
- When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the previous Friday will be the day off. When a holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday will be the day off.
- Juneteenth National Freedom Day is on June 19th and will be observed on that day if it falls on a Monday. If June 19th falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, it will be observed the immediately preceding Monday. If June 19th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, Juneteenth National Freedom Day will be observed on the following Monday.
- Employees of departments whose operation requires their services on prescribed holidays shall be given another day off within the same work week.
