Policy Needs Assessment

Please complete these steps to analyze whether there is a need for a new policy:

  1. Identify the reason for a policy change or a new policy.
    1. Generally policy changes are driven by an external requirement or an internal need. Some examples include: changes to, or new USHE rules or laws, promoting operation efficiency and effectiveness, mitigating risk, clarifying existing policy, or standardizing processes across University units.
  2. State the specific problem that the policy will address.
  3. Identify and review similar USHE and SUU policies, guidelines, webpages, etc. Make sure to avoid duplication, and tie relevant information together.
  4. Determine who at the University is responsible for this policy area. Work with the appropriate University Vice President or Assistant/Associate Vice President and other stakeholders to determine if a policy change or new policy is necessary and to determine next steps.
