Growing up in northern Utah, James Cowser has always had a love for sports, especially football.
James received a football scholarship to Southern Utah University and quickly left his mark on the field.
As a Thunderbird, James broke the all time sacks and tackles for loss records for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), was named the FCS Defensive Player of the Year, and was titled an All-American from the Walter Camp Foundation and Associated Press.
His football fame continued when the Oakland Raiders signed him as a free agent in 2016. James quickly demonstrated his talents on the field and was placed on the team’s active roster.
James has made major waves as an NFL rookie; from landing his first NFL sack in December, to his recent feature on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show.
“SUU has been incredible for me,” said James. “Not only did it give me an opportunity to advance my football career, it also sparked in me a love for learning. SUU gave me a great balance.”
