Stephanie deGraffenried knew she wanted to study the Earth, and thanks to the amazing location of Southern Utah University, she quickly fell in love with SUU’s geology department.

Geology Assistant Professor, Johnny MacLean, was especially enthusiastic about the subject matter and created multiple opportunities to study out in the field, instilling confidence in Stephanie.

“MacLean gave me the tools I needed to push further and gave me advice that was greatly appreciated,” said Stephanie.

Outside of her studies, Stephanie was actively involved in SUU’s Geology Club and also participated in SIGMA and the Country Swing Dance Club

Shortly after graduation, Stephanie began working with CS Mining. She now is the Project Geologist for Exploration, in charge of the exploration drilling logistics and 3D mapping of ore zones.

“SUU was a wonderful place to learn and prepare for the future,” said Stephanie. “One day, I plan on getting my PhD and becoming a professor, hopefully at SUU.”
