Working and Volunteering for SUU PREP
SUU PREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program, designed to develop abstract reasoning and problem-solving skills. PREP identifies middle school students with the potential to become scientists or engineers and reinforces them in pursuit of these fields. The program is presented over the course of three summers. SUU PREP expects to serve 75 students for SUU PREP 2024. The program will include coursework, team projects, class presentations, activities, special events, and examinations.
SUU PREP 2024 will run on the following schedule
- One Day Staff Training between May 28-31
- Classes: June 3 - June 21, 2024
- Break: June 24 - July 5, 2024
- Classes: July 8 - 26, 2024
Although there may be slight variations, the following is a typical Monday - Thursday schedule.
- 9:00 am - 9:25 am: Morning check-in
- 9:30 am - 12:00 pm: Classes
- 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch (students bring their own lunch)
- 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm: Classes
- 3:30 pm - 3:45 pm: Check out
Available Positions
SUU PREP has three types of positions available: teacher, teaching assistant, and volunteer.
Teachers

Teaching Assistants
SUU students can learn about this position and apply at TBird Jobs. The position pays $12 per hour; Teaching Assistants will work 7-8 hours per day, 4-5 days a week throughout the program.
Volunteers
Parents, community members, and SUU students can serve as volunteers for SUU PREP. All volunteers must pass a background check.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of program participants.
- Assist with hands-on experiences, lessons, and field trips.
- Attend classes and laboratories with students as assigned.
- Be engaged in learning class material and actively help students during class time.
- Assist with lunch supervision.
- Serve as a mentor to students, encouraging the development of a commitment to educational achievement.
- Engage with students during lunch/activities.
- Work as a team along with PREP staff.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Commitment to and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.
- Prior experience working with adolescents preferred.
Skills
- Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Ability to assess student work.
- Capable of maintaining control of student groups.
