Music Facilities

Thorley Music Recital Hall is a 212 seat chamber auditorium located in the music building. Chamber recitals and smaller concerts are performed here. Many of the larger ensemble concerts are performed at the new downtown 900 seat Heritage Theatre on 1st east. Teaching studios, classrooms, and practice rooms are housed in the music building. The instrumental rehearsal hall is located across from the music building in the new South Hall.Grand Piano

Within view of the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts and the SUU Auditorium building, the new Music Center will be a 44,000-square-foot, two-level facility, located on the northwest corner of 300 West and University Boulevard. Architectural design for the building is led by Method Studio, with mechanical engineering by WHW Engineering, Inc., and acoustics by Jaffe Holden. Audiovisual production systems are being implemented by The Shalleck Collaborative, Inc., and landscape design is managed by Arc Sitio Design. Layton Construction Company has been appointed as the general contractor, with oversight from the Utah Division of Facilities and Construction Management and SUU Facilities Management.

The Music Center marks a significant milestone in SUU’s commitment to fostering artistic excellence and providing state-of-the-art facilities for its students and community. Highlights of the Music Center include:

The centerpiece of the Music Center will be its beautiful and spacious concert hall. For the first time in the Music program’s history, we will have an on-campus venue dedicated to our large ensembles, specifically designed to meet their unique acoustic needs. The hall will feature a choir loft, balcony, and box seats, ensuring an exceptional experience for both performers and audience members.

This facility is an investment in the future of SUU’s growing Music programs, and will be ready to host classes and performances in the fall semester of 2026. It will enhance the visibility of our music program in the region and prepare our students for careers in an ever-changing and growing industry.
