Office of Student Outreach and Support
The Student Outreach & Support (SOS) Office at Southern Utah University provides support, non-clinical interventions, advocacy, and referrals for students experiencing challenges in their personal and academic lives. The Student Outreach & Support team is comprised of non-clinical case managers who meet with students to gain an understanding of their needs and to identify personal strengths. Student Outreach & Support team members can assess students for health risk factors and assist students in making connections with resources that can offer treatment and higher levels of care. The services offered by the Student Outreach & Support team are designed to assist students in developing appropriate self-care and self-advocacy skills. The Student Outreach & Support team works closely with students to collaboratively develop action plans for success. The Student Outreach & Support team is committed to assisting students as they navigate university administrative processes, connect with university and community resources, and overcome obstacles to their academic success.

Student Outreach and Support (SOS) responds to referrals regarding concerns about student well-being and collaborates with campus and community partners to ensure students are offered a continuum of care and support.
Anyone and everyone (professors, parents, roommates, friends, etc.).
If a student is an immediate threat to self, others, or property it should be considered an emergency and directed to the SUU Police Department at 435-586-1911.
Student to Student referrals and self-referrals can be sent directly to the Case Managers by filling out the SOS Referral Form or you can also schedule a meeting with a Student Outreach & Support team member.
The Case Manager will reach out to the student and request a meeting to discuss the referral and available resources. It is up to the student to respond to these outreach efforts. If there is no response to Student Outreach & Support outreach efforts, the reporter will be notified.
CAPS provides ongoing mental health therapy, skill building and consultation to help students cope with problems they are experiencing in a clinical capacity. CAPS is a completely confidential resource. Student Outreach & Support receives concerns, assists with short-term planning and follow-up, and refers students to resources on and off campus.
Members of the Student Outreach & Support team work to keep student information private. If an immediate health and safety risk is identified, a report will be made to the appropriate campus office for follow-up.
